Create and Share an App Template

You can create an app template from an existing Production app.

If you want the app template to be available to other users, you must share the app template.

Create an App Template

You can create an app template from an existing Production app by configuring the app in ArcGIS Online.

The app must be deployed as a Production app before it can be used as a template.

To create an app template:

  1. In a web browser, sign into arcgis.com with the account you used to create the Production app that you want to use as a template.

  2. Click Content.

  3. In the side panel, under Folders, click Geocortex Viewer Files (don't delete).

A list of your GXW apps, web maps and web scenes appear.

In ArcGIS Online, an app is known as a Web Mapping Application.

  4. Click the Production version of your app, which has a (prod) suffix. For example, if your app is named My GXW App, click My GXW App (prod).

Do not click on the Development version of your app, which lacks the (prod) suffix.

A configuration page for your app appears.

  5. Near the bottom-right of the page, beside Tags, click Edit.

  6. In the Edit Tags box, type Geocortex Web Template and click Save.

  7. If you want to rename the template, click beside the name of your Production app, type a new name, and click Save.

  8. If you want this template to be available to other users in your organization, share the template.

  9. Open Geocortex Web Designer to verify the app template appears for the users you want.

Share an App Template

If you want to make the app template available to other users, you must share the Production app and its web maps and web scenes in ArcGIS Online.

To share an app template:

  4. Select the checkbox beside the Production version of your app, which has a (prod) suffix.

For example, if your app is named My GXW App, select My GXW App (prod).

Do not select the Development version of your app, which lacks the (prod) suffix.

  5. If your app uses a 2D web map, select the checkbox beside the Production version of the web map, which has the name of the app as a prefix and a (prod) suffix.

For example, if the name of the app is My GXW App and the web map is named Capital City (Web 2D), select My GXW App - Capital City (Web 2D) (prod).

If you share the app but not its web maps, other users may encounter errors if they select your template.

  6. If your app uses a 3D web scene, select the checkbox beside the Production version of the web scene, which has the name of the app as a prefix and a (prod) suffix.

For example, if the name of the app is My GXW App and the web scene is named Capital City (Web 3D), select My GXW App - Capital City (Web 3D) (prod).

If you share the app but not its web scenes, other users may encounter errors if they select your template.

  7. Near the top-right of the page, click Share.

    The Share window appears.

  8. Select the checkbox beside the name of your organization.

  9. Click OK.

  10. Open Geocortex Web Designer to verify the app template appears for the users you want.
