Create an App

New apps are based on either an existing template or existing apps. You can use the whole template or app but you can also import a single component from a template or app. The flexibility to quickly use and adapt existing components makes creating an app relatively quick and easy.

To create an app:

  1. On the taskbar, click File, and then click any of the following: 

    If you are unable to see the app you want to use, type the name of it into the Search box, and then click Search.

  2. Select app or template you want to use and click Get Started or Open.

    If you do not have permission to modify the app, you will be asked if you want to make a copy.

    Click Yes to continue.

  3. The Configure Components panel displays all the elements in this app or template that you can configure.

  4. In the Configure Components panel, click any component to begin configuring its settings. For more details about configuring components, see Component Settings.

    When you click on another setting, any settings you have configured are automatically applied.

  5. When you have completed the configuration of all the components you want to change, click File | Save As.

  6. In the Title box, type in a title for your app, and then click Save.

    The map is saved to either ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS.

    You can continue to open and add or edit components to your map at any time.

    The next time you want to edit your app, however, it will be listed under My Apps.
