This documentation is for Geocortex Reporting 5, a standalone product in the new generation of Geocortex products. Geocortex Reporting 5 addresses similar needs to the existing capabilities offered by Geocortex Essentials Reporting: the ability to create reports that include data from a user's session in your web application. However, there are significant differences between Geocortex Reporting 5 and Geocortex Essentials Reporting:
Geocortex Reporting 5 is offered as a standalone product. You do not need any other Geocortex products (like Geocortex Essentials) to use Reporting 5. If you have Geocortex Essentials, you can use Reporting 5 with Essentials and its companion products, the HTML5 Viewer and the Geocortex Mobile App Framework.
Geocortex Reporting is available as a service (SaaS), so there's nothing to install. Alternatively, you can install Geocortex Reporting on premises and use it with your Portal for ArcGIS installation.
In addition to running in Geocortex HTML5 viewers (with or without the Geocortex Mobile App Framework),

In Geocortex Report Designer, the report data source is defined in the report and is not dependent on the application that the report is run from. In Geocortex Essentials Reporting, reports use the layer that the report is added to as the data source.

In Geocortex Reporting, the Feature Picture Box can display a feature using any web map. In Geocortex Essentials Reporting, the Feature Map control displays the map service used in the site.
In Reporting 5, related data is defined in the report configuration and is not dependent on site defined relationships.
Geocortex Essentials Reporting and Geocortex Reporting both support scripting, but the underlying object model is different.
