Esri Licensing

Geocortex Mobile is designed to consume and display content from a variety of Esri software, for example, ArcGIS Online, or Portal for ArcGIS. The Esri licenses that you require in order to author and publish content, are available from your Esri distributor.

GXM uses the modern ArcGIS pattern and ArcGIS Identities to author and access applications. An Esri portal (ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS Enterprise) and the ArcGIS Identities themselves are also available from your Esri distributor.

For an on-premises installation of Mobile Designer, the free, public ArcGIS Online accounts are not supported, because they do not permit you to create an ArcGIS Online app for GXM that is essential for it to function. You must have an ArcGIS Online license that is for at least a Developer or Organization account.

ArcGIS Licensing Capabilities

To run either Mobile Designer or the apps created with it, you need a valid ArcGIS Identity.

For GXM apps to have full functionality to edit or sync your data while offline, you must have at least Basic licensing capabilities of Esri's Runtime.

For more information on the Esri Licensing capabilities, see Licensing Your ArcGIS Runtime App.

If you plan to use Portal for ArcGIS and want to use Geocortex Go to view your apps, you need to add a GXM app to your Portal for ArcGIS with specific permissions and tags, or you will get an error message when trying to open Geocortex Go.

For instructions on creating the app in Portal for ArcGIS, see Create an App in ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS.

Operating System Requirements for On-Premises GXM Servers

Microsoft Windows Server 2019 must be installed on the machine that you use to install and run Geocortex Mobile Designer. Mobile Designer includes the ability to create custom GXM apps with the Build Service that is included in the installer. This Build Service requires Windows Server 2019.

1 GB of free space is required.

For organizations who do not require custom builds, or who do not have access to Windows Server 2019, there is an option to install Mobile Designer on Windows Server 2012 RC2 or later. However, this option does not include the build service that makes it possible to create custom branded apps.
You can create Apps with this installer that you launch and distribute using Geocortex Go, which is free and available free on the iOS, Android, and Windows app stores.

Both installers are available in the Geocortex Community - Downloads.
Mobile Designer On-Premises requires that CPU Virtualization be enabled if you are installing directly onto the server. If Virtualization is not enabled, installation will fail. Virtualization is usually enabled by default.
To check that virtualization is enabled, in Task Manager, on the Performance tab, the text below the CPU graph indicates if Virtualization is enabled.

Mobile Designer cannot run on a Cloud or a Virtual Service (VM) unless the service supports virtualization. Few cloud or VM services support Virtualization.

If you plan to install Mobile Designer on a hosted server, it must have nested virtualization enabled.

Hardware Requirements for On-Premises GXM

A faster CPU and more memory improve the performance of Geocortex Mobile. We recommend that your server exceeds the minimum requirements.

Internet Connectivity for On-Premises Mobile Designer

The on-premises client of Geocortex Mobile Designer requires a connection to the Internet.

The apps created by the Mobile Designer and Geocortex Go function both connected to and disconnected from, the Internet.

Supported Browsers

Mobile Designer runs in a desktop environment. We recommend the following browsers:

Supported Versions of Portal for ArcGIS

Geocortex Mobile works with Portal for ArcGIS 10.5 and later.

Security Requirements for On-Premises GXM Servers

The Mobile Designer server must have a valid Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 certificate and you must enable TLS for the website to which you plan to deploy Mobile Designer. TLS is the successor of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security but is still sometimes referred to as SSL. For more information, see How to Set up SSL on IIS 7.

SSL is not required for installation, but is a best practice.

Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) Requirements

By default, ArcGIS portals (including ArcGIS Online) allow cross-domain requests using Cross-origin Resource Sharing (CORS). In the Esri portal that you use with Geocortex Mobile Designer, if you have any domains configured in the Organization | Settings | Security | Allow Origins setting, then you must add the Geocortex Mobile Designer server as an allowed origin.

In the Esri portal that you use with Geocortex Mobile Designer, configure the Organization | Settings | Security | Allow Origins setting in any of the following ways:
