Configuration

The Configuration section in this document is divided into parts that contain similar information that's presented slightly differently for users at different levels of expertise. The Configure an App section is for beginner users as it contains step-by-step configuration information. The Component Settings section is a list of all the possible settings in Mobile Designer and is to be used as a quick reference.

The configuration information in this help is divided into:

Configuration Options

You configure and change settings for an application in Mobile Designer. Depending on the level you are at in the Components when you access the configuration menu, you can perform these actions on multiple components within an existing app (root or highest level) or a single component (at the component level).

The following are the methods used to configure map components:

Get Configuration

It is possible to copy component configuration from other apps and the default template into your current app. You can Get Configuration from a single or multiple components.

Get a Single Component

When you want to copy a single component, you first open the component you want to change. You then import the configuration for that component from either the default template or an existing app and overwrite the open component.
You access the Get Configuration option from the options menu at the top-right of a particular component's panel.

Get Multiple Components

When you want to copy multiple components, you need to ensure that you are at the highest level of the Configure Components panel.

To ensure that you are at the highest level, click the back arrow in any component panels that are open.

You then select multiple components and overwrite the components of the currently open app with the imported components.
You access the Get Configuration option from the options menu at the top-right of the root Components panel.

To get configuration for a single component:

  1. In Mobile Designer, in the Configure Components panel, click the component whose configuration you want to change.

  2. At the top-right of the panel, click , and then click Get Configuration.

    A dialog appears where you can select the default template or an existing app from which to import configuration.

  3. Select the template or app, and then click Import.

    If you are unable to see the app you want to use, type the name of it into the Search box, and then click Search.

    A dialog appears where you can select the components from which to import configuration.

  4. In the left column, select the component that contains the configuration you want.

  5. In the right column, select the component whose configuration you want to overwrite.

  6. Click Next.

  7. Review the changes that will be applied, and then click Apply.

    The selected configuration is imported.

  8. Click File | Save.

To get configuration for multiple components:

  1. In Mobile Designer, in the title box of the Configure Components panel, click and then click Get Configuration.

    A dialog appears where you can select an template or app from which to import configuration.

  2. Select the template or app whose configuration you want, and click Import.

    If you cannot see the app you want to use, type the name of it into the Search box, and then click Search.

    A dialog appears where you can select multiple component's configuration to import.

  3. In the left column, select the components from which you want to copy configuration.

  4. In the right column, select the components whose configuration you want to overwrite.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Review the changes to be applied, and then click Apply.

    The selected configuration is imported.

  7. Click File | Save.

Export Configuration

It is possible to export component configuration from your current app to other apps. You can Export the Configuration of a single or multiple components. In either case, you can export configuration to multiple apps simultaneously.

Export a Single Component

When you want to export a single component, you need to open the component you want to export. You select the apps to receive that configuration and export the component. The exported configuration overwrites that component in the apps you selected.
You access the Export Configuration option from the options menu at the top-right of the particular component's panel.

Export Multiple Components

When you want to export multiple components, you need to ensure that you are at the highest level of the Configure Components panel.

To ensure that you are at the highest level, click the back arrow in any panels that are open.

You select the apps to receive all the component configuration and export all the components. The exported configuration overwrites those component in the apps you selected.
You access the Export Configuration option from the options menu at the top-right of the root Components panel.

To export configuration for a single or multiple components:

  1. Do one of the following:

    A dialog opens and lists all the apps that you have permission to use.

  2. Click the apps you want to export the configuration into, and then click Export.

    The dialog that opens depends on whether you selected to export one or multiple components. The multiple components to multiple apps dialog contains a list of the components being exported on the left side.

  3. In the left column, select the component from which you want to copy configuration.
  4. In the right column, select the components you want to overwrite with the new configuration.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Review the changes to be applied and when you are ready, click Apply.

    The selected configuration is exported.

Revert Configuration

You can revert a component's configuration to its default settings at any time.

To revert a component to defaults:

  1. In Mobile Designer, in the Configure Components panel, click the component whose configuration you want to revert.
  2. In the top-right corner of the panel, click , and then select Revert to Defaults.

    That component's configuration is reverted to its default settings.
