Configuration

The Configuration section in this document is divided into parts that contain similar information that's presented slightly differently for users at different levels of expertise. The Configure an App section is for beginner users as it contains step-by-step configuration information. The Component Settings section is a list of all the possible settings in Mobile Designer and is to be used as a quick reference.

The configuration information in this help is divided into:

Configuration Options

You configure and change settings for an application in Mobile Designer. Depending on the level you are at in the Components when you access the configuration menu, you can perform these actions on multiple components within an existing app (root or highest level) or a single component (at the component level).

Get Configuration

It is possible to copy component and service configuration from other apps and templates to replace existing configuration in your own app. You can Get Configuration from a single or multiple components.

If you want to import a component (and all components within it) into your app as a new component, see Import a Component.

Get Configuration for a Single Component or Service

When you want to copy a single component or service, you first open the component or service you want to change. You then import the configuration for that component or service from either a template or an existing app and overwrite the open component or service.
You access the Get Configuration option from the options menu at the top-right of a particular component or service's panel.

Get Configuration for Multiple Components or Services

When you want to copy the configuration of multiple components or services, you must ensure you are at the highest level of the Components or Services panel.

To ensure that you are at the highest level, click the back arrow in any component or service panels that are open.

You then select multiple components or services, and overwrite the components or services of the currently open app with the imported configuration.
You access the Get Configuration option from the options menu at the top-right of the root Components or Services panel.

To get configuration for a single component or service:

  1. In Mobile Designer, in the Components or Services panel, click the component or service whose configuration you want to change.

  2. At the top-right of the panel, click , and then click Get Configuration.

    A dialog appears where you can select a template or an existing app from which to import configuration.

  3. Select the template or app, and then click Import.

    If you are unable to see the app you want to use, type the name of it into the Search box, and then click Search.

    A dialog appears where you can select the components and services from which to import configuration.

  4. In the left column, select the component or service that contains the configuration you want.

  5. In the right column, select the component or service whose configuration you want to overwrite.

  6. Click Next.

  7. Review the changes that will be applied, and then click Apply.

    The selected configuration is imported.

  8. Click File | Save.

To get configuration for multiple components or services:

  1. In Mobile Designer, close any component or service panels that are open except for the component or service list.

    The menu icon appears in the Components or Services panel.

  2. Click the menu icon , and then click Get Configuration.

    A dialog lists the template or apps from which you can import configuration.

    If you cannot see the app you want to use, type the name of it into the Search box, and then click Search.

  3. Select the template or app whose configuration you want, and click Import.

    A dialog appears where you can select multiple components and services.

  4. In the right column, select the components or services whose configuration you want to copy.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Review the changes to be applied, and then click Apply.

    The selected configuration is imported.

  7. Click File | Save.

Export Configuration

It is possible to export component or service configuration from your current app to other apps. You can Export the Configuration of a single or multiple components or services. In either case, you can export configuration to multiple apps simultaneously.

Export Configuration for a Single Component or Service

When you want to export a single component or service, you need to open the component or service you want to export. You select the apps to receive that configuration and export the component or service. The exported configuration overwrites that component or service in the apps you selected.
You access the Export Configuration option from the options menu at the top-right of the particular component or service's panel.

Export Configuration for Multiple Components or Services

When you want to export multiple components or services, you must ensure you are at the highest level of the Components or Services panel.

To ensure that you are at the highest level, click the back arrow in any panels that are open.

You select the apps to receive all the component and service configuration, and export all the components and services. The exported configuration overwrites those components and services in the apps you selected.
You access the Export Configuration option from the options menu at the top-right of the root Components or Services panel.

To export configuration for a single or multiple components or services:

  1. Do one of the following:

    • To export a single component or service, click the options menu at the top-right of a component or service's panel.
    • To export multiple components or services, click the options menu at the top-right of the root Components or Services panel.

    A dialog opens and lists all the apps that you have permission to use.

  2. Click the apps you want to export the configuration into, and then click Export.

    The dialog that opens depends on whether you selected to export one or multiple components and services. The multiple components to multiple apps dialog contains a list of the components and services being exported on the left side.

  3. In the left column, select the component or service from which you want to copy configuration.

  4. In the right column, select the components or services you want to overwrite with the new configuration.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Review the changes to be applied and when you are ready, click Apply.

    The selected configuration is exported.

Revert to Last Saved Configuration

You can revert a component or service's configuration to the last saved version.

To revert a component or service to its last saved configuration:

  1. In Mobile Designer, in the Components or Services panel, click the component or service whose configuration you want to revert.
  2. In the top-right corner of the panel, click , and then select Revert to Last Saved.

    That component or service's configuration is reverted to the last saved settings.
