Upgrade Analytics from Version 1.0.x/1.1.x to 1.3.x

The upgrade process from versions 1.0 or 1.1 needs to take into account improvements to the database and data optimization that were done in the versions between 1.1 and 1.3.x. The data migration can take some time, depending on your system setup.

In Analytics 1.4, changes have also been made to clustering. For this reason, in order to upgrade to version 1.4, you need to first upgrade to versions 1.3.x.

For more information about upgrading from 1.0.x, see the Knowledge Base article named Upgrading to Geocortex Analytics 1.1 or Geocortex Essentials 4.6.

If you or Geocortex Support changed your Geocortex Core Data folder to a different location after an installation of Insight 1.0.x, you must contact Geocortex Support to help you upgrade to Analytics 1.3.x.

If you have a previous version of Geocortex Analytics 1.1.x or Geocortex Insight 1.0.x installed, do not uninstall previous versions of Geocortex Analytics, Geocortex Insight nor Geocortex Core before you upgrade to Geocortex Analytics 1.4.1.

If you uninstall previous versions, the upgrade process will not work properly.

If you have already uninstalled the previous version of Geocortex Analytics or Geocortex Insight, you must reinstall it before you upgrade to Geocortex Analytics.

If you have never installed Geocortex Analytics nor Geocortex Insight, you do not need to install the previous version before you install Geocortex Analytics 1.4.1.

Database Backup

If you are updating from a version of Analytics lower than 1.1.x, then you should take the precaution of backing up the database before you upgrade. The reason for this is that Analytics 1.2 involved a substantial change to the database.

We recommend that you stop the Geocortex Core service and back up your database before you run the upgrade. The default installed location for the Analytics database is:

C:\Program Files\Latitude Geographics\Geocortex Core\Data

If you do not find the database in the default folder, it may have been installed on another drive, but with the same path, for example:

E:\Program Files\Latitude Geographics\Geocortex Core\Data

The procedure to back up your database differs depending on whether you are upgrading to Analytics 1.4.x from Analytics 1.1.x or from Insight 1.0.x.

Back up the Analytics 1.1.x Database

To back up the Analytics 1.1.x database:

  1. Click the Windows Start button, type Services, and click Services.

    The Services app appears.

  2. Right-click Geocortex Core and click Stop.

  3. Navigate to the Data folder and ensure it contains subfolders like Analytics.Datastore and DocumentStore as these indicate that it is the correct folder and contains the correct data.

Copy the entire Data folder to a location of your choice that has enough space.

  4. After copying the folder, in the Services app, right-click Geocortex Core and click Start.

Back up the Insight 1.0.x Database

To back up the Insight 1.0.x database:

  1. Click the Windows Start button, type Services, and click Services.

    The Services app appears.

  2. Right-click Geocortex Core and click Stop.

  3. Navigate to the Data folder and ensure it contains subfolders like Insight.Datastore and DistribuedDB as these indicate that it is the correct folder and contains the correct data.

Copy the entire Data folder to a location of your choice that has enough space.

  4. After copying the folder, in the Services app, right-click Geocortex Core and click Start.

Data Migration During an Upgrade to 1.3.x

The data migration process differs depending on whether you are upgrading to Analytics 1.3.x from Analytics 1.1.x or from Insight 1.0.x. The data migration process is much faster when upgrading from 1.1.x than from 1.0.x.

Data migration is a one-way process. Once started, you cannot return to a previous version.

The Geocortex Analytics interface at http://localhost/AnalyticsReports displays a progress page until the data migration process completes.

If you have any concerns about data migration, please contact Geocortex Support.

Data Migration from 1.1.x

When you upgrade from Analytics 1.1.x, the data migration process automatically starts after the installer completes. All previous data is automatically migrated. It should take about 4-6 hours to migrate 100 GB of data, depending on your hardware.

Data Migration from 1.0.x

When you upgrade from Insight 1.0.x, the installer offers options to select the amount of data to migrate from the old version. By default, no data is migrated and all previous versions of the data are deleted.

Do not interrupt the data migration process when you upgrade from Insight 1.0.x.

Data migration from Insight 1.0.x happens in two stages:

When you upgrade Insight 1.0.x, data migration can take a long time. Migrating 100 GB of data may take up to 48 hours, depending on your hardware.

Data Migration can consume over 50% of the CPU and RAM and impact the performance of other resources on the server. We recommend you perform the upgrade at a convenient time after hours.

Data Optimization for Analytics 1.2

The 1.2 upgrade of Analytics included the streamlining and optimization of data, with the result that after an upgrade of Analytics to a version later than 1.2, disk usage gradually decreases as obsolete data is purged. The cleanup process runs in the background until it is complete. For large data sets, the cleanup process may take up to a month.

The version 1.2 database migration occurs in two phases :

Upgrade from Analytics 1.1.x to 1.3.x

The upgrade process varies depending on whether you are upgrading a Hub server or an Agent server. It is important to upgrade the Hub server first before upgrading any Agent servers.

Upgrade from Analytics 1.1.x to 1.3.x on a Hub Server

To upgrade from Analytics 1.1.x to 1.3.x on a Hub server:

  1. Navigate to the folder where you unzipped the upgrade package.

  2. Double-click the Geocortex Analytics.exe file.

When the installer opens, the folder option is not available as you are upgrading a previous installation.

  3. Select the I agree to the License Terms and Conditions checkbox, and then click Next.

The Run Service By Account window appears.

If your environment is behind a proxy, you can use this window to enter the credentials of the Windows user account that is configured to use forward proxy server settings.

  4. To enter the Windows user account details, click Enabled.

  5. Click Next.

    The Confirm Installation window appears.

  6. Click Install.

The Status updates you on each activity as the installation progresses.

Do not click Cancel during the Core installation.

When the installation completes successfully, a confirmation window appears.

Because you are upgrading, Geocortex Analytics will already be activated and your ArcGIS Identity will remain the same.

  7. Click Finish.

You can open Geocortex Analytics and sign in.

Upgrade from Analytics 1.1.x to 1.3.x on an Agent Server

To upgrade from Analytics 1.1.x to 1.3.x on an Agent Server:

  4. To enter the Windows user account details, click Enabled.

  5. Click Next.

  6. You are asked to configure a Shared Secret for your cluster.

  7. In the Shared Secret box, type a shared secret for your cluster, and then click Next.

    The Data Migration window appears.

  8. Select how much Geocortex Insight data you want to keep, and then click Next..

Data that you do not select to keep will be permanently deleted.
If you choose not to keep all data, you are prompted to confirm your choice.

    The Confirm Installation window appears.

  9. Click Install.

The Status updates you on each activity as the installation progresses.

The Geocortex Core pop-up appears to indicate the Core is being installed.

Because you are upgrading, Geocortex Analytics will already be activated. You must set up an ArcGIS Identity to sign into Analytics. For more information, see Set up an ArcGIS Identity or Portal for ArcGIS Login.
We recommend you restart your machine.

  10. Click Finish.

The ArcGIS Identity Setup window appears.

To set up an ArcGIS Identity, follow the procedure in Set up an ArcGIS Identity or Portal for ArcGIS Login.

When you have set up an ArcGIS Identity and restarted your machine, you can open Geocortex Analytics and sign in.
