Essentials Configuration

You can configure Essentials settings at various levels depending on the level you select in the Sidebar:

Global Essentials Settings

You can select settings that affect all the instances of Essentials in the cluster. At this level, you can set collection intervals, as well as site and service settings that affect all the sites or services that Analytics is monitoring.

Essentials Collection Interval Settings

To change the global settings for all Essential instances, in Configuration, select Geocortex Essentials in the Sidebar:

You can change the Collection Interval for all the sites in all Essentials instances:

You can also set alarms to fire when a site fails to respond or is slow to response.

Set Alarms on Global Sites

Setting alarms on this tab affects all sites, including global website settings.

To set alarms on all sites:

  1. Open Analytics, and then click Configuration.

  2. In the sidebar, click Geocortex Essentials .

  3. Select the Site Settings tab.

  4. To enable an alarm if a response fails, click Alarm on Failed Response.

  5. To enable an alarm if a response takes too long, click Alarm on Response Time and then in the Response Time field, type in the number of seconds within which a response must occur. If the response exceeds this time, the alarm is triggered.

    In the Trigger After field, you can type in the number of times that the conditions must be met before the alarm fires

    If you want to have alarm notifications sent directly to you via email or phone (SMS), you need to configure your email and phone information under Configuration | System | Email Settings and SMS Settings.

Global Service Settings

You can change the Collection Interval for all the map, feature, image, and geocode services that are found in ArcGIS Servers, Geocortex Essentials instances, ArcGIS Online, or Portals for ArcGIS. You can change these settings in Analytics under Portals, ArcGIS Servers, and Essentials. When you change the settings in any of these locations, it changes the settings for all the services in all the locations.

You can configure settings for map, feature, image, and geocode services.

On the Services Settings tab, change any of the following:

Set Alarms on All Services

To set alarms on all services:

  1. Open the Reports application, and then click Configuration.

  2. In the sidebar, click Portals, ArcGIS Servers or Geocortex Essentials .

  3. Select the Service Settings tab.

  4. To enable an alarm if a response fails, click Alarm on Failed Response and then Alarm on Response Time.

  5. Click Alarm on Response Time.
  6. In the Response Time field, type in the number of seconds within which a response must occur. If the response exceeds this time, the alarm is triggered.

    If you want to have alarm notifications sent directly to you via email or phone (SMS), you need to configure your email and phone information under Configuration | System | Email Settings and SMS Settings.
  7. In the Trigger After field, type in the number of times that the conditions must happen before the alarm triggers. The minimum number is 1, which means that the alarm triggers whenever the conditions are met. If you enter 2, the alarm triggers the second time a condition is met.

Specific Essentials Instance Settings

At the Essentials Instance level, you can set how often data and log information about this instance of Essentials is collected. You can also add the credentials required to access this Essentials if it is secured using Windows Authentication. If you use other security, you do not need to specify the credentials in order to monitor Essentials.

Specific Essentials Site Settings

At the site level, you can set the collection interval for one particular site, set alarms on one specific site as well as set the collection interval and alarms for each specific service within that site. Alarms for Essentials data can be set on for both site and services settings.

If you have secured an Essentials instance using Windows Authentication, you must enter the access credentials of a user who has access to the Essentials instance , or alarms will not work correctly. You can set up the authentication information on the Essentials instance Setup tab.

On the Alarms tab, set alarms to fire if probes to this particular site fail or take too much time:

Collection Limitations

If an Essentials Site references a service on an ArcGIS Server that is not being monitored by Analytics, for example, an Essentials Site has a hosted service from ArcGIS Online included in it, then the following information won't be available:
