Geocortex Core is a foundational layer that supports other Geocortex products like Geocortex Essentials and Geocortex Analytics. It contains functionality that enables capabilities in Geocortex products that require storage, security, scalability and fault-tolerance. Although it is not distributed separately from Essentials and Analytics, Geocortex Core is an important part of both products.

Of primary importance, Geocortex Core provides a document storage service, the Data Store, to Geocortex Essentials and Geocortex Analytics. Essentials uses the Data Store for a variety of purposes, such as storing HTML5 Viewer projects, Geocortex Mobile App Framework offline maps, events that occur in Collaboration rooms, and indexes managed by Instant Search. Analytics uses the Data Store to store and aggregate all of the data gathered from its collectors.

How it Works

The building blocks of Geocortex Core are called Roles. In fact, Geocortex Core is essentially a set of Roles that work together, although each Role is a separately running service that performs a specific function. All Geocortex Core roles can be deployed in a Cluster of one or more Nodes. A Node is usually a physical or virtual server. Roles are configured using configuration files that are synchronized with the shared Data Store to ensure that all the Nodes agree on how the Roles are configured.
